Seven days, according to the catchy tune I sing with my students every morning. Seven days. And unfortunately I'm realizing that I spend so much of my time not taking advantage of the possibilities those days hold. The last few years have been challenging and it's no lie that I'm not where I expected I would be at this point in my life. Certainly with my recent medical diagnoses the years are unlikely to be getting easier. I'm ashamed to say that it has been my go-to reaction to have a pity party and play the "what-if" game as I compare my life to my virtual "friends" on Facebook.
"The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel." - Steve Furtick
This quote has been posted around various social media sites and as cliche as it may have become, I found it at an especially appropriate time in my life and can appreciate the sentiment. Instead of concentrating on everyone's highlight reel, I hope to spend more time enjoying my behind-the-scenes.
I've never successfully kept a blog. I'd like to use this as a means to maybe hold myself accountable for making more of my seven days a week and reminding myself to enjoy the little things going on behind the scenes.
We'll see, eh?
